Gorilla Media has been commissioned to deliver a high-impact Digital Advertising Van campaign in Westminster to reinforce the ‘Mind The Budget Gap’ HS2 message leading up to the Budget. This follows a successful implementation of the ‘HS2 Where’s The Money Gone Gravy Train campaign’ featuring art deco Bisto style graphics featured on Gorilla Ad Van Digital Screens earlier this year.

Budget Week in London is always a moment of political intensity, and this year Gorilla Media has been commissioned to deliver one of the most visibility-driven mobile advertising campaigns deployed in Westminster. The project highlights the national debate around the spiralling cost of HS2 and brings the message directly to the political, governmental and media institutions where spending decisions are shaped.

This strategically timed activation has been designed to provoke discussion, create impact in high-footfall political environments and demonstrate the unmatched agility of digital mobile billboards when compared with static out-of-home formats.

Impactful Creative is the key

The creative concept — produced by Knox Digital — following Digital Creative Guidelines supplied by Gorilla Media uses bold, satirical animation to visualise the strain HS2 places on the UK’s budget. The creative positions Canceller Rachel Reeves as the HS2 “Budget Train”, charging toward a cliff edge. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer appears as “The Tax Controller”, symbolising the administration overseeing one of the UK’s most expensive public projects.

https://www.mobile-billboards.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/HS2-AdVan-FullCarousel-1.mp4

Each animation panel is accompanied by the familiar Thomas the Tank Engine theme tune, creating instant cultural recognition and transforming the message into a memorable, shareable moment for anyone who encounters the Digital Ad Van screen on the streets of Westminster.

https://www.mobile-billboards.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/HS2-Advertising-Van-Mind-The-Budget-Gap.mp4

Why Mobile Digital OOH Is So Effective in Political Capitals

Mobile Digital Out-of-Home (M-OOH) platforms allow targeted messaging in scenarios where static billboards cannot reach — especially in political districts where outdoor advertising inventory is scarce, restricted or booked years in advance.

Gorilla Media’s high-resolution Digital AdVans offer:

Instant repositioning to capture attention in shifting news cycles

Motion graphics and soundtracks, increasing dwell time and recall

Full London coverage without needing individual site permissions

Real-time adaptation of messaging if political sentiment changes

A physical presence that can literally follow key political figures, institutions or events

This flexibility is why mobile digital formats have become essential during political campaigns, public consultations, strikes, ministerial movements and Budget announcements.

Strategic Westminster Route Planning

HS2 Westminster Ad Van Route

To maximise exposure, Gorilla Media designed a route that directly engages the geographical centres of power in the UK. Locations include:

Parliament Square

Downing Street

The Treasury

Department for Transport

Westminster Bridge

HS2’s Euston headquarters

Tufton Street

Old Queen Street

College Green media area

The route also includes peak visibility timings — including early mornings outside Milbank and Parliament, and midday circulation around media hubs where broadcasters, correspondents and political advisers congregate. Of course as a solus medium on a bespoke route flexibility is the key to react to opportunities such as interviewing key figures using the ad van graphics to relay the key message in front of a relevant landmark i.e. The Treasury in front of a TV crew or press photographer.

The AdVan carries a dedicated photographer and videographer, ensuring:

Live Media Capture and Real-Time Amplification

Fresh content for social channels throughout the day

Real-time updates for national media

A rapid PR uplift driven by shareable visuals

Footage suitable for reels, press packs and digital campaigns

This approach turns the Digital AdVan into both a media channel and a mobile film set

The Message: Mind The Budget Gap

The campaign centres on one simple idea: with a reported Budget gap of around £25bn, more than half of British voters believe HS2 should be scrapped rather than bridging the deficit through tax rises. The campaign communicates that message through:

Bold typographic design

Humorous visual storytelling

Cultural references (Thomas theme tune)

Direct political targeting

Clear public poll citations

The combination makes the AdVan impossible to ignore for MPs, advisers, departments, journalists and civil servants.

By blending creative innovation (Knox Digital) with operational precision (Gorilla Media), the campaign shows how mobile billboards can lead national conversation, influence public debate and bring urgent issues directly to the people who can act on them. A Case Study in Strategic Mobile Billboard Deployment this initiative demonstrates what Gorilla Media is best known for: The right message, in the right place, at the right time.

In politics, visibility is everything. For over two decades, Gorilla Media has helped shape that visibility through mobile political advertising, from the European Parliament in Brussels to the seafront of Blackpool during the 2024 general election.

Whether it’s a local candidate needing flexible messaging or a national party leader wanting to land a message with maximum media coverage, our digital AdVans have played a vital role in creating some of the UK’s most talked-about political moments.

Over 20 Years of Mobile Political Advertising

Our relationship with mobile political campaigns began long before LED screens became mainstream. We’ve worked with political parties, pressure groups, and independents across the political spectrum to help them get noticed – not just online, but in the real world.

In the early days, we used to apply over-run paper posters from static billboard campaigns. These were pasted up in sections using ladders, brushes, and paste. G

orilla then pioneered cost-effective, one-piece digitally printed vinyl posters, which were full billboard size. This innovation made campaigns bespoke and reusable and still features in some of our current work.

Our vans helped bring political messaging out of Parliament and into public view. During Nigel Farage’s UKIP years, we supported a range of campaigns, including:

The Stop HS2 campaign, travelling to towns and rural communities directly affected by the proposed rail line.

Protests against the war in Syria, where mobile advertising helped amplify national demonstrations.

Several mayoral and police commissioner races, where independent or lesser-known candidates needed an agile and cost-effective way to reach voters.

Unlike traditional billboard advertising, our AdVans gave campaigns the freedom to move. They could turn up at events, follow news cycles, and place messages right in front of the audiences that mattered most.

Political Campaigning in 2024: The Blackpool Moment

Fast forward to the 2024 general election, and mobile political advertising is more relevant than ever.

One standout moment from the Reform UK campaign took place at the Imperial Hotel in Blackpool. The party’s event, focused on illegal immigration, brought together over 600 supporters, national broadcasters, and the press. Our role? Ensuring the message stayed front and center, quite literally.

We positioned twin-screen digital AdVans at the event, carefully angled so that every photo and TV broadcast would capture Farage with a clear campaign message behind him. With high-resolution screens and bold creative, the visuals were clean, sharp, and media-friendly. Wherever the story was shown, our screens were part of the narrative.

But this wasn’t just a standard campaign event. Thanks to collaboration with the venue, we live-streamed the England Euros match directly on the AdVan screen, keeping energy high among supporters. As soon as the match ended, the screen flipped seamlessly back to “Vote Reform” branding.

The mix of politics and live sport created a buzz, and hundreds of attendees shared photos and videos of the AdVan online. That’s the power of mobile political advertising. It turns a campaign into a shareable, physical experience that people remember.

Why Mobile Political Advertising Still Matters

While social media and online advertising are now part of every campaign strategy, mobile political advertising still provides something digital-only platforms can’t: presence.

It gets messages out in the real world, in locations that matter. It grabs attention in high-traffic areas and gives campaigns the ability to respond quickly to headlines, events, or breaking news. We switched to digital screens just before the COVID period, which allowed us to update messages instantly, tailor language to specific locations, and create far more dynamic campaigns.

At Gorilla Media, our AdVans are designed for modern campaigning:

Iconic visibility – our screens are bright, sharp, and unmissable in public spaces.

Live updates – we can change artwork instantly to reflect current messaging.

TV and press-ready visuals – ideal for events, press calls, and photo opportunities.

Engagement on the ground – supporters interact with the vans, take photos, and help spread the message organically.

How a Digital Advertising Campaign Took Sunday for Sammy to the Streets of London

At Gorilla Media, impactful storytelling is what drives us. Our recent partnership with Sunday for Sammy brought together high-spec digital vans, targeted route planning, and meaningful messaging to deliver a focused digital advertising campaign in one of the UK’s busiest cities.

With our digital AdVans, we helped Sunday for Sammy reach thousands of people across London in a single day, sharing their story and cause with an entirely new audience, right on the streets of the capital.

Supporting the North East’s Performing Arts

Sunday for Sammy is a registered charity that provides funding for young and emerging talent in the North East’s performing arts scene. Created in memory of actor Sammy Johnson, the Trust offers grants to support training, equipment, and professional development for musicians, actors, writers, and technicians from the region.

While the charity is widely known for its sell-out concerts in Newcastle featuring North East stars, its work goes much further. Behind the scenes, Sunday for Sammy funds creative projects that open doors for the next generation of performers. This ongoing support makes it a vital part of the region’s cultural landscape.

A Mobile Campaign with a Powerful Message

To promote the charity’s work and extend its reach, Gorilla Media delivered a digital advertising campaign across high-profile locations in central London. The campaign was designed to increase awareness of Sunday for Sammy’s latest initiatives, using full-motion video, strong visuals, and concise messaging.

The digital AdVan followed a custom route that included:

Wembley Stadium during the Carabao Cup Final

Piccadilly Circus for maximum visual exposure

Trafalgar Square and Westminster, targeting tourists and civic audiences

Key commuter routes across central boroughs

Running for eight consecutive hours and covering up to 60 miles, the campaign ensured that Sunday for Sammy’s message was displayed in high-traffic areas throughout the day.

What Makes Digital Van Advertising So Effective?

Digital van advertising gives brands, charities, and organisations the ability to take their message directly to the public. Unlike static billboards, AdVans can follow your audience, making them ideal for timed promotions, major events, or targeted local campaigns.

Our vehicles are equipped with:

LED screens between 10 and 26 square metres

Single, twin, and tri-sided displays

Integrated sound systems

Low-emission LPG engines

Real-time photo tracking and post-campaign reports

These features ensure every digital advertising campaign we deliver is memorable, measurable, and suited to the client’s goals. Whether it’s for a one-day push or a longer rollout, Gorilla Media’s service is designed for performance on the move.

What It Meant for Sunday for Sammy

This digital advertising campaign gave Sunday for Sammy a platform in one of the UK’s most visible environments. By using our AdVan in locations with high footfall and media presence, the campaign succeeded in boosting visibility for the charity and its ongoing work.

As with every project, Sunday for Sammy received a full report with real-time images and route data, allowing their team to assess impact and engagement across each stop.

For a charity that is deeply rooted in its regional identity, this campaign offered an opportunity to connect with a national audience and expand its supporter base beyond the North East.

Why This Matters for Your Brand

A digital advertising campaign is not just a tool for raising awareness. It is a flexible, location-based marketing solution that allows you to be seen by the right people at the right time. Whether you are launching a product, supporting a social cause, or driving brand awareness, our digital van advertising services offer real-world exposure and lasting impact.

From government bodies and local councils to private brands, we have delivered campaigns across multiple industries with powerful results. Our AdVans allow your message to travel and reach people where it matters most.

Book Your Campaign

If you are planning a digital advertising campaign and want to make a bold, location-targeted impact, Gorilla Media has the tools and experience to help. From route planning to full-motion visuals, we deliver campaigns that are built to be seen.

At present, we don’t yet run fully emissions-free AdVans. What we do offer is battery-powered screens, replacing generators with silent, zero-emission operation when static

Experience You Can Trust

Political campaigning is fast-moving and often unpredictable. Messages change. Events pop up. Routes get re-planned. That’s why working with an experienced team makes all the difference.

Whether you’re a content creator, client, or agency partner, capturing a great image of your campaign on an LED advertising van can be surprisingly tricky. Unlike traditional posters or billboards, digital screens introduce a few unique challenges when it comes to photography and video.

At Gorilla Media, we want your campaign to shine in person and on screen. This guide explains how to photograph an LED advertising van successfully, using either a DSLR or your smartphone. From camera settings to creative techniques, here’s everything you need to know to avoid flicker, glare and blurry content.

Why LED Screens Are Difficult to Capture

LED screens are made up of thousands of light-emitting diodes that refresh rapidly, usually at 60Hz (60 times per second). While our eyes can’t see this refresh cycle, cameras often can. That’s why videos of digital screens sometimes show banding, flicker, or a rolling wave across the image.

You might also notice moiré patterns in still photos. This happens when the camera sensor interferes with the screen’s pixel grid. Overexposure is another common issue, especially when filming at night or in low light.

These are normal challenges, and with a few simple adjustments, you can capture clean, high-quality images of your LED advertising van in almost any condition.

Recommended DSLR Settings

If you’re using a DSLR or mirrorless camera, start by setting your shutter speed to either 1/60s or 1/120s. Thes

e speeds help sync with the screen’s refresh rate, reducing flicker in video. For frame rate, aim for 30fps or 60fps – not 25fps, which is common in the UK but more prone to interference with LED refresh cycles.

Use an aperture between f/2.8 and f/5.6 to soften the pixel detail and allow more light in, especially at dusk or at night. ISO can sit between 100–400 during daylight and increase to 800 or 1600 after dark, depending on lighting. Set your white balance to daylight (~5500K) during the day, and adjust it down to 3200K–4500K in the evening to avoid colour shifts.

Using a tripod or stable surface is also a good idea, particularly for longer exposures or filming at night.

Gorilla_Media_Cheat_Sheet

Smartphone Photography Tips

Modern smartphones can produce great results, but you need to work with the screen, not against it. To capture your LED advertising van clearly:

· Lock the focus and exposure by tapping and holding the screen on the lit area of the van.
· Lower the exposure manually (the small sun icon on most phones) to avoid blowing out bright screen content.
· Avoid zooming in digitally – instead, move physically closer to the van if you need a tighter shot.
· Use a stabiliser or hold steady to avoid motion blur, especially in darker conditions.

Some phones offer advanced settings through apps like Filmic Pro or Open Camera. These apps allow you to fine-tune frame rate and shutter speed for better results, especially with video.

Distance, Angle and Pixel Pitch

The pixel pitch of an LED screen refers to the distance between each diode. Gorilla Media uses high-resolution screens with pixel pitches of 3.9mm to 4.8mm, which look excellent at viewing distances of 2 metres or more.

When photographing an LED screen too closely, you might notice visible pixel structure or moiré patterns. To reduce this, try:

· Stepping back at least 2 metres
· Shooting straight on instead of at a sharp angle
· Using a wide aperture to slightly blur the grid

This approach helps capture a cleaner image and ensures your campaign visuals look as good on camera as they do in person.

Artwork That Looks Better on Camera

If you’re designing artwork for an LED advertising van, you should consider how it will photograph as well as how it will display. Large white areas can appear overly bright in photos, while pale colours and fine text can be difficult to read at a distance.

To improve photo results:

· Use high-contrast colour combinations
· Keep your fonts bold and legible
· Avoid excessive detail or pale-on-pale layouts
· Stick to strong, clean branding elements

Simpler designs not only perform better on the road but also translate more clearly to photos and video.

When to Shoot for Best Results

Lighting conditions play a huge role in how your content will look. The best times to capture an LED advertising van are:

· Golden hour – early morning or late afternoon, when the light is soft and flattering
· Overcast days – which offer even exposure without harsh shadows
· Night – for dramatic contrast, as long as you expose properly for the screen

In all cases, try to expose for the screen itself to keep colours accurate and content readable.

Let Us Help You Get the Best Shot

In the North East, music and community are deeply connected. Few stories reflect that better than Sam Fender’s rise from a local lad with a guitar to one of the UK’s most celebrated artists. Gorilla Media is proud to have played a small but visible role along the way.

Back in 2019, our van advert helped promote one of Sam’s earliest headline arena shows at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena. It was a big step for him and a proud moment for the region. We were there, helping make sure his name and his music reached the people who needed to hear it.

Now, in 2025, Sam has taken things to another level.

A Weekend to Remember at St. James’ Park

This summer, Sam Fender returned to St. James’ Park for three massive nights in front of over 150,000 fans. The streets of Newcastle were filled with excitement, pride and music. For many, it wasn’t just a concert. It was a celebration of identity and belonging.

Once again, Gorilla Media was on the ground. Our digital advertising vans were deployed across key areas around the stadium. But this time, we weren’t just promoting Sam. We were also helping raise awareness for something just as local and just as special – Sunday for Sammy.

What Is Sunday for Sammy?

Sunday for Sammy is now in its 25th year. It’s a variety show with a mission. Designed to raise funds for young creative talent in the North East, it showcases some of the region’s most loved actors, musicians and comedians. The money raised goes directly to helping young performers access training, equipment, and opportunities that can change their lives.

Over the years, the show has featured big names like Ant & Dec, Tim Healy, Mark Knopfler, Denise Welch, Jill Halfpenny and many others. But its real power is in the support it gives to the next wave of local talent, the future Sam Fenders.

Giving Back to Where It All Began

In a powerful gesture, Sam Fender donated a portion of his ticket sales from opening night at St. James’ Park to local causes, including Sunday for Sammy. It was a reminder of how far he’s come, and how committed he remains to his roots.

For Gorilla Media, it was an honour to support the show during such a high-profile weekend. Our van advert helped carry that message through the crowds, making sure people knew about the initiative and how they could support it.

A Van Advert That Stands Out

When footfall is high and energy is everywhere, static ads often get lost. A van advert is a mobile, high-impact way to engage with your audience in real time. It moves where the people are, displaying your message on a bright, high-resolution screen that can’t be ignored.

During the concert weekend, our digital advertising vans displayed bold visuals promoting Sunday for Sammy. We navigated the streets surrounding the stadium, capturing the attention of thousands of music fans. Our content ran from early afternoon until well into the evening, making sure we caught people before and after each show.

Advertising Van Hire: Take Your Message on the Road with Gorilla Media

When it comes to getting your message out there in a bold, visible way, few formats are as effective as advertising van hire. Unlike static billboards that rely on foot traffic passing by, mobile billboards bring your campaign directly to your audience. Whether you’re opening a new retail outlet, redirecting customers from a competitor, or supporting a cause, an advertising van gives you the flexibility and control to show up where it matters. The right place, with the right message, at the right time.

At Gorilla Media, we provide a wide range of mobile billboard formats across the UK. From digital LED vans that play high-impact video content to traditional AdVans with striking printed banners, our vehicles are built to be seen. Because we handle everything from campaign planning to logistics, hiring an advertising van with us is easy, efficient, and totally tailored to your goals.

Why Hire an Advertising Van?

The beauty of advertising van hire lies in its mobility. Your message isn’t stuck in one place. It moves. That means you can follow your audience, target specific locations, and adapt your campaign in real time. Need to promote a new product in multiple cities over a weekend? Want to generate buzz outside a stadium or during a high-street festival? An advertising van lets you do just that, and more.

In the retail sector, mobile billboards are often used tactically. You can promote new store openings, run short-term sales, or place vans near competitor sites to redirect traffic and protect your market share. They also work well for signposting, guiding people to outlets that aren’t on main roads or in well-known locations.

Beyond retail, advertising van hire is increasingly being used by third sector organisations and campaign groups. Whether you’re raising awareness, lobbying for change or trying to reach a specific community, a mobile billboard allows you to take your message directly to where it counts. We’ve supported campaigns parked outside government buildings, on city routes, and during important social or cultural events.

Advertising vans are also effective in what are called media black holes, areas without traditional out-of-home (OOH) opportunities. Where TV, print or online would be too broad or wasteful, a targeted route with a mobile van ensures your message lands exactly where it’s needed.

“The medium is the message.”
— Marshall McLuhan

Advertising vans are still an unusual sight for most people. That rarity, combined with the sheer size of the screen or printed display, makes them naturally attention-grabbing.

Making an Impact at Live Events

Advertising vans are particularly strong in event settings. They’re ideal for capturing footfall before, during, and after the action. A van parked near a festival entrance becomes part of the experience. A DigiVan playing video outside a sports venue grabs attention as crowds arrive. A static AdTrailer near a retail park ensures visibility throughout the day.

Hiring an advertising van for an event gives you more than presence. It gives you freedom. You decide where the van goes, when it’s seen, and what message it delivers.

Supporting Pride Month on the Move

One of our most vibrant seasonal campaigns is during Pride Month. Every year, cities across the UK come alive with celebration, solidarity, and colour. Advertising van hire offers the perfect platform to be part of that energy.

At Gorilla Media, we’ve worked with clients to create Pride campaigns that roll through high streets, join parades, and deliver bold, inclusive messages to communities. When you choose advertising van hire for Pride, your campaign doesn’t sit in the background. It leads.

We’ve helped brands share messages of love, identity, and support through DigiVans lit up with colourful displays. Whether parked at key venues or travelling with the crowd, these vans create real presence and energy.

Pride campaigns need to be more than visible. They should be meaningful. That’s why we help with creative planning, route approvals and on-the-ground support to make sure the campaign reflects your values and speaks to the audience in the right way.

A Full-Service Approach to Mobile Campaigns

Working with Gorilla Media means more than booking a van. From the first conversation, we help you design a campaign that’s built around your goals. Whether it’s a one-day push or a multi-week national route, we’re here to make it run smoothly.

We offer:

Driving Change with Mobile Advertising: Chris Packham’s Digital Campaign at BP HQ

Gorilla Media recently supported a powerful environmental initiative digital campaign, led by one of the UK’s most well-known conservationists. Chris Packham, BBC presenter, naturalist and author, commissioned a mobile advertising activation designed to deliver a bold message directly to BP International’s London headquarters.

This was not a standard awareness push. It was a targeted, high-impact digital campaign using one of our AdVans to place climate messaging right outside the doors of one of the world’s largest fossil fuel companies.

A Clear Mission from a Trusted Voice

Chris Packham is widely respected for his work on nature programmes including Springwatch, Autumnwatch and Winterwatch. Beyond his television work, he is a passionate environmental advocate who uses his platform to raise awareness about biodiversity, climate change and corporate responsibility.

This campaign was part of that mission. His team approached Gorilla Media with a clear objective. They wanted to deliver a message that could not be ignored, at a location that symbolises the environmental challenges we face.

We deployed one of our high-definition digital screen AdVans to BP’s London HQ. The campaign displayed striking visuals with direct, urgent messaging. It was timed for maximum visibility, catching both the public and BP employees at a key moment in the working day.

A Digital Campaign Built for Visibility and Impact

This digital campaign was about more than visuals. It was about strategic placement, public engagement and accountability. Mobile advertising allowed the message to appear right where it mattered most, in real time.

The AdVan brought environmental advocacy directly to its audience. With passers-by stopping to film and take photos, the message extended far beyond the building. Social sharing turned a single site into a wider conversation.

Unlike static billboards or online banners, mobile digital screen advertising provides location flexibility and real-world engagement. It becomes part of the street, the commute, the moment. That is what makes it so effective for issue-based campaigns.

Responsible Media for Purpose-Led Messaging

We recognise that how a message is delivered matters just as much as what it says. At Gorilla Media, we are taking real steps to improve the sustainability of our advertising operations.

We have invested in LPG generators, which are currently the cleanest fossil fuel option for mobile power. Our first lithium battery-powered screen has already been deployed, and we are preparing to introduce our first fully electric AdVan to our fleet.

When clients like Chris Packham choose Gorilla Media, they are not only selecting a platform with impact. They are working with a company that is aligned with the values behind the message. For us, environmental responsibility is a commitment that shapes our long-term plans, not just our campaigns.

Mobile Advertising as a Tool for Change

Chris Packham’s campaign reminded us that mobile advertising can be used for more than brand promotion. It can support real-world activism, public education and urgent calls to action.

With a digital campaign delivered by an AdVan, the message reached its target audience with immediacy and authority. It did not wait to be seen. It arrived, fully formed, at the centre of the conversation.

This format is well suited for organisations that want their campaigns to travel, to meet the moment and to speak directly to decision-makers and communities. From city centres to corporate headquarters, mobile digital screens offer flexibility that few other channels can match.

A Shared Commitment to Purposeful Campaigns

Partnering with Chris Packham allowed us to support a message that aligns with our own goals. We believe media should be effective, accountable and capable of creating change. This campaign showed what happens when message, location and medium come together at the right time.

It also challenged us to continue evolving. As we move toward a fleet powered by clean energy, we are ensuring that our tools match the values of the clients we support. We want every digital campaign we deliver to reflect not only creative excellence, but also operational responsibility.

Unlike static billboards or online banners, mobile digital screen advertising provides location flexibility and real-world engagement. It becomes part of the street, the commute, the moment. That is what makes it so effective for issue-based campaigns.

Adding QR Codes To Your Artwork

QR codes can also be incorporated into the high-resolution AdVan screens, offering an interactive element for your audience. These codes can direct viewers to the ticket booking facility or another destination of your choice. If you would like advice on preparing QR code artwork for your campaign, please contact Gorilla Media to ensure it’s optimised for our screens.

Final Thoughts

This collaboration with Chris Packham demonstrated the potential of mobile advertising for campaigns that matter. The visuals, the placement and the intention behind the work came together to create a moment that could not be ignored.

If your organisation is planning a purpose-led digital campaign, we are ready to help. Whether you are raising awareness, demanding change or sharing a message that deserves more attention, Gorilla Media will deliver it in the most visible and meaningful way.

Contact us today to start planning your next campaign. Let’s put your message in motion.

Gateshead College recently joined forces with Gorilla Media to deliver a unique surprise that celebrated the achievements of nine outstanding apprentices. Using digital screen advertising, the college took a creative approach to recognition, with personalised digital messages delivered directly to each apprentice at their workplace.

This campaign turned a simple thank-you into a memorable moment, witnessed by employers, colleagues and passers-by across Tyne & Wear, County Durham and Northumberland.

Bringing Recognition to the Streets

Instead of presenting awards in a formal setting, Gateshead College used a digital screen advertising van to visit each apprentice in person. The digital display featured their name, role and a personalised message of congratulations, appearing outside their place of work with no prior warning.

The element of surprise added genuine excitement. Apprentices were caught off guard in the best way possible, with smiles, applause and even a few tears as their efforts were recognised publicly and proudly.

Supporting Local Talent Across the Region

This campaign reflected Gateshead College’s continued commitment to real-world training and local success. The college works closely with businesses across many sectors, providing apprenticeship opportunities that lead to lasting employment and career development.

By choosing to celebrate through digital screen advertising, the college was able to reach apprentices across Northumberland, Tyne & Wear and County Durham in a single day. The campaign brought visibility to achievements across the wider region.

From tech firms to manufacturing sites, the digital van delivered appreciation in a powerful and highly visible format.

A Creative Shift in Digital Screen Advertising

Gorilla Media is known for high-impact mobile campaigns that grab attention. This project, however, used that same technology to share emotional stories rather than commercial messages. The result was a fresh and thoughtful use of digital screen advertising, proving that these displays are just as effective for storytelling as they are for sales.

Each apprentice featured in the campaign had been nominated for going above and beyond in their placement. Employers praised their initiative, work ethic and growth, which made the public recognition even more meaningful.

Planning the Perfect Surprise

The logistics behind the campaign were carefully coordinated. Gateshead College worked closely with employers to ensure each apprentice would be in the right place at the right time. Gorilla Media mapped the route, timed the stops and made sure each visit felt personal and celebratory.

As the digital van pulled up, vibrant screens lit up with tailored messages. In many cases, colleagues and managers gathered to watch, creating a mini event that often ended with cheers and social media posts. The campaign was shared across platforms, further increasing its reach and impact.

Why Digital Screen Advertising Works for People-Focused Campaigns

This project showed how digital screen advertising goes far beyond traditional promotions. It created stronger engagement by celebrating people directly. The campaign delivered its message face to face. The apprentices didn’t just see it. They felt recognised, valued and supported. Each apprentice understood that their work mattered. The moment gave them more confidence and motivation to keep moving forward. Employers also saw the college’s clear commitment to quality, support and real-world achievement. This format gave the campaign flexibility. Unlike posters or newsletters, the AdVan adapted to each location and audience. It fit into the apprentices’ daily routines and turned ordinary moments into memorable ones.

Lessons for Other Organisations

This campaign gives other organisations a model to follow. Any school, business or charity can use this approach to celebrate people. You can use digital screen advertising to highlight achievements, share appreciation or announce internal successes with emotional impact. These campaigns offer visibility, energy and a strong human connection. They create moments people notice and remember. The Gateshead College campaign balanced celebration with innovation. That balance made it stand out in a busy world.

Final Thoughts

Gateshead College celebrated apprentices across Tyne & Wear, County Durham and Northumberland using a simple but powerful idea. The team brought recognition to each doorstep. They proved that you don’t need a stage or formal event to say thank you. You just need the right message, the right moment and the will to show people they matter. This campaign raised the bar. It reminded us that some of the best messages come to us when we least expect them.

Gorilla Media Stand Against Brexit Ad Van

For over 20-years Newcastle based outdoor advertising contractor Gorilla Media have staged mobile billboard ad van campaigns for political parties, unions and lobbying organisations across the political spectrum in Westminster, Holyrood, The Welsh Parliament and across the entire UK. Even deploying their guerrilla marketing tactics to the heart of the EU at the European Parliament in Brussels.

Peoples Vote Ad Van

However, after recent incidents with the public involving their advertising vehicles delivering campaigns calling for a People’s Vote and 38-Degrees targeting MP’s to reject a No Deal, they have decided to refuse to carry any Brexit related messages of any persuasion.

“Drivers reported that the mood on the streets has changed”, said Gorilla Media director David Roberts, “So I decided to see for myself”. Driving an AdVan on a number of Brexit related campaigns in Manchester, Carlisle, Ayr & Dumfries, as well as North Yorkshire and Northumberland, South Shields and Sunderland, he personally experienced incidents of verbal abuse and even threats against himself and the Ad Van.”

He went on to say “Our advertising vans our a very impactful medium and people who agree with the message we are delivering have been giving us a thumbs up and taking photos of the mobile billboard and posting them on social media. On the other hand, the comments from those who don’t agree with the poster have become quite hostile. And this really has become a case of ‘don’t shoot the messenger”.

On their website www.mobile-billboards.co.uk there is a selection of campaign photographs for organisations whose messages they have delivered include Labour, Conservatives, Liberals, UKIP, Plaid Cymru parties. The Scottish Government, Regional Devolution (‘Yes’ and ‘No’ votes), lobbying organisations such as Operation Black Vote, Freedom Association, Taxpayers Alliance, Liberty, 38-Degrees. The GMB, UNITE, UNISON, AMICUS and Lloyds Bank unions, as well as environmental campaigners including The Woodland Trust, Animal Defence International, Political Animal Lobby and more….

Digital Ad Van Peoples Vote Bournemouth

“Of course the messages we carry don’t necessarily reflect the views of our staff or directors” Mr Roberts stressed. “but over the years we do believe the campaigns we have staged have stimulated healthy debate and freedom of speech – the cornerstone of the UK democracy. Sadly, I don’t think we can deliver that service in the current political climate”.

Mr Roberts added “With Downing Street announcing a £100 million ‘Get ready for Brexit’ advertising spend, and enquiries for potential General Election campaigns being received, we are aware that we are refusing some potentially lucrative contracts, but the Brexit issue is so divisive, we feel we owe a duty of care to our drivers and have to put their safety first. I have even been told that our insurers may not cover us if something was to happen to our advertising vehicles under these circumstances as it could possibly be classed as civil unrest and any claim rejected.”
