In politics, visibility is everything. For over two decades, Gorilla Media has helped shape that visibility through mobile political advertising, from the European Parliament in Brussels to the seafront of Blackpool during the 2024 general election.
Whether it’s a local candidate needing flexible messaging or a national party leader wanting to land a message with maximum media coverage, our digital AdVans have played a vital role in creating some of the UK’s most talked-about political moments.
Over 20 Years of Mobile Political Advertising
Our relationship with mobile political campaigns began long before LED screens became mainstream. We’ve worked with political parties, pressure groups, and independents across the political spectrum to help them get noticed – not just online, but in the real world.
In the early days, we used to apply over-run paper posters from static billboard campaigns. These were pasted up in sections using ladders, brushes, and paste. G
orilla then pioneered cost-effective, one-piece digitally printed vinyl posters, which were full billboard size. This innovation made campaigns bespoke and reusable and still features in some of our current work.
Our vans helped bring political messaging out of Parliament and into public view. During Nigel Farage’s UKIP years, we supported a range of campaigns, including:
-
The Stop HS2 campaign, travelling to towns and rural communities directly affected by the proposed rail line.
-
Protests against the war in Syria, where mobile advertising helped amplify national demonstrations.
-
Several mayoral and police commissioner races, where independent or lesser-known candidates needed an agile and cost-effective way to reach voters.
Unlike traditional billboard advertising, our AdVans gave campaigns the freedom to move. They could turn up at events, follow news cycles, and place messages right in front of the audiences that mattered most.
Political Campaigning in 2024: The Blackpool Moment
Fast forward to the 2024 general election, and mobile political advertising is more relevant than ever.
One standout moment from the Reform UK campaign took place at the Imperial Hotel in Blackpool. The party’s event, focused on illegal immigration, brought together over 600 supporters, national broadcasters, and the press. Our role? Ensuring the message stayed front and center, quite literally.
We positioned twin-screen digital AdVans at the event, carefully angled so that every photo and TV broadcast would capture Farage with a clear campaign message behind him. With high-resolution screens and bold creative, the visuals were clean, sharp, and media-friendly. Wherever the story was shown, our screens were part of the narrative.
But this wasn’t just a standard campaign event. Thanks to collaboration with the venue, we live-streamed the England Euros match directly on the AdVan screen, keeping energy high among supporters. As soon as the match ended, the screen flipped seamlessly back to “Vote Reform” branding.
The mix of politics and live sport created a buzz, and hundreds of attendees shared photos and videos of the AdVan online. That’s the power of mobile political advertising. It turns a campaign into a shareable, physical experience that people remember.
Why Mobile Political Advertising Still Matters
While social media and online advertising are now part of every campaign strategy, mobile political advertising still provides something digital-only platforms can’t: presence.
It gets messages out in the real world, in locations that matter. It grabs attention in high-traffic areas and gives campaigns the ability to respond quickly to headlines, events, or breaking news. We switched to digital screens just before the COVID period, which allowed us to update messages instantly, tailor language to specific locations, and create far more dynamic campaigns.
At Gorilla Media, our AdVans are designed for modern campaigning:
-
Iconic visibility – our screens are bright, sharp, and unmissable in public spaces.
-
Live updates – we can change artwork instantly to reflect current messaging.
-
TV and press-ready visuals – ideal for events, press calls, and photo opportunities.
-
Engagement on the ground – supporters interact with the vans, take photos, and help spread the message organically.
At present, we don’t yet run fully emissions-free AdVans. What we do offer is battery-powered screens, replacing generators with silent, zero-emission operation when static
Experience You Can Trust
Political campaigning is fast-moving and often unpredictable. Messages change. Events pop up. Routes get re-planned. That’s why working with an experienced team makes all the difference.
Gorilla Media doesn’t just supply screens. We plan your routes, provide technical support, and advise on how to get the most from your creative. We’re used to working under pressure and know how to deliver results, even on tight timelines.
We’ve worked with all major parties in the 2024 general election, so we don’t appear to be exclusively associated with Reform UK. From major party leaders to independent candidates, we’ve helped all kinds of campaigns gain the visibility they need to get noticed, remembered, and talked about.
